ITHACA, NY - The University at Buffalo men's tennis team was swept Sunday in a pair of non-conference matches at Cornell's Reis Tennis Center. In the opener, the Bulls fell to No. 67-ranked Cornell, 6-1. UB then dropped the nightcap to Army, 7-0. UB is now 2-6 overall.

In the opening match against the Big Red, UB's lone bright spot was junior Randy Rocchio (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East). Rocchio scored the Bulls' only point of the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Scott Poltrowitz at first singles. Rocchio also teammed with junior Nick Zieziula (Hamburg, NY/St. Francis) to defeat Nick Brunner and Josh Raff, 8-4, at first doubles.

The Bulls felt the effects of playing a second match immediately after the Cornell loss as UB was swept by the Black Knights failing to win a single set. Rocchio, at first singles, fell to Army's John Sabia, 7-5, 6-4. Mike Rockman (Toronto, Ontario/Thornhill), after dropping a tiebreaker in his match against Cornell, was defeated by John Houghton, 6-4, 6-4.

UB has a busy week upcoming as they travel to Rochester to take on a strong Division III Yellowjackets squad on Wednesday. The Bulls also travel to Olean on Saturday for matches against Bucknell and Duquesne. They open Mid-American Conference play next Sunday at home against Western Michigan, ranked 66th by College Tennis Online.
