Bulls Crown Dukes, 6-1 Men's tennis team knocks off Duquesne to open weekend homestand
WILLIAMSVILLE, NY – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team defeated the visiting Duquesne Dukes, 6-1, Friday evening at the Village Glen Tennis Center. The Bulls improved their record to 4-2 with the victory while Duquesne is now 3-3. UB picked up the doubles point with victories in the number one and three matchups. The clincher was scored by the third tandem of Octavian Stane and Kristof Custers as they downed Kyle O'Leary and Gustavo Villares, 8-4.Kirill Kolomyts and Marcelo Mazzetto cruised by Alex Mast and Mark Maciuch, 8-1, in the number one match. The Bulls finished off the Dukes with five straight set victories in the singles contests. Mazzetto claimed the clinching point with his 6-4, 6-3 win over Jeremy McClelland at number one. McClelland had defeated Mazzetto in three sets when the Bulls and Dukes met last season in Pittsburgh with Duquesne claiming a 4-3 victory. Mitch Zenaty, at number six, and Kolomyts, at number two, picked up the two victories prior to Mazzetto's fourth-point win. UB also had singles wins from Alex Kalinin and Custers. The Bulls continue their homestand on Sunday against Colgate. Play begins at 11:00 am at the Village Glen Tennis Center.
