Vagabond Bulls Split Matches Away From Home

UB’s men’s tennis team took its act on the road again over the weekend splitting a pair of matches. The Bulls traveled to St. Bonaventure to meet Bucknell on Saturday with UB prevailing, 6-1, over the Bison. However, it was the Bulls who were on the short end of the 6-1 margin the following day when they met Colgate in Hamilton. UB is now 3-2 overall.

No Problems With Bucknell

Against Bucknell, the Bulls had no trouble in posting the win.

UB opened play by claiming the doubles point with UB’s top duo of Yules Hadisubroto (Jakarta, Indonesia/SMUN 21) and Nikesh Singh Panthlia (George Town, Malaysia/BMK Penang Free School) earning the deciding point as they downed Ira Reibeisen and Asher Salam, 8-6. The Bulls needed to rally from a 4-1 deficit to take the match, winning seven of the final nine games. UB made quick work of the Bison in the singles competition as Singh Panthlia won a second-set tiebreaker over Salam at number two to clinch the fourth and deciding point. After winning the first set, 6-3, Singh Panthlia was forced into the tiebreaker, coming away with a 7-4 win to claim the set, 7-6, giving UB the four points needed for the victory.

Kennedy Earns Lone Win Against Colgate

Senior Matt Kennedy (Mississauga, Ontario/Erindale) was the lone Bull to come away with a victory on Sunday against Colgate.

Playing fourth singles, Kennedy scored a 6-3, 6-3 win over Marshall Wheeler. It was Kennedy’s second singles win of the weekend as he also defeated Bucknell’s Ryan Sandburg, at fifth singles on Saturday. Kennedy downed Sandburg, 8-5, in a pro-set match since the overall match with the Bison had already been decided before the pair took to the court. Kennedy is now 9-5 this season in singles.

Bulls Return Home for Doubleheader

The Bulls open the home slate this Friday with a day-night doubleheader at the Village Glen Tennis Center. At noon, the Bulls host perennial Mid-American Conference power Western Michigan. The Bulls then tangle with regional rival Cornell in the evening session, starting around 8:00 pm. Western Michigan and Cornell will meet at 4:00 pm.
