Bulls Sweep Niagara, Swept by Binghamton

The University at Buffalo men’s tennis team split their weekend matches against a pair of regional rivals by identical 7-0 scores. The Bulls (3-2) picked up a shutout win over Niagara at North Tonawanda’s Sportsplex on Friday night, but less than 24 hours later were the victims of a 7-0 shutout against America East power Binghamton as the teams squared off on neutral ground at Cornell’s Reis Tennis Center.

Junior Kirill Kolomyts had his unbeaten string stopped on Saturday in UB’s 7-0 loss to Binghamton. Kolomyts was the lone player to not lose a match in the spring campaign, grabbing singles and doubles wins in UB’s first four contests. However, both the singles and doubles streaks came to an end as he and partner Marcelo Mazzetto were defeated by Binghamton’s Gilbert Wong and Sven Vloedgraven in a tiebreaker at first doubles. Kolomyts then fell to Vloedgraven at second singles by a 6-2, 6-2 margin. Kolomyts remains UB’s victory leader this season in both singles and doubles with 15 and 11 wins, respectively.

Weekend Homestand Awaits

The Bulls play their next three matches at home this weekend as they welcome a pair of regional opponents and open the Mid-American Conference schedule. The Bulls take on Duquesne on Friday at 5:00 pm. UB then opens league play with a contest against Chicago State, a league member for men’s tennis only, at 1:00 pm. The Bulls then conclude the weekend with an 11:00 am contest against Colgate. Last season, the Bulls fell to both Duquesne and Chicago State by 4-3 decisions and defeated Colgate, 5-2, as all three matches were played away from home.
