WILLIAMSVILLE, NY – The University at Buffalo men’s tennis team picked up singles victories from its top three individuals but was unable to claim the victorious fourth point as the Bulls fell to regional rival St. Bonaventure, 4-3, Sunday afternoon at the Village Glen Tennis Center. The Bulls are now 1-6 overall while the Bonnies are 2-6.

UB's top three singles players scored wins on Sunday, but it was too late as the Bonnies had taken the bottom three matches to secure the fourth point and the win.

UB's Marcelo Mazzetto (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Carlos Magno) improved to 2-0 at the number one spot with his 6-0, 7-5 victory over St. Bonaventure's Leo Mochizuki. At number two Nikesh Singh Panthlia (George Town, Malaysia/BMK Penang Free School) scored a 6-2, 6-4 win against Victor Lecina. In the number three match, Kirill Kolomytes (Moscow, Russia/Moscow High School 155) defeated Jonathan Luce, 6-3, 6-2.

However, St. Bonaventure took the bottom half of the matches with three straight-set wins. In the number four match, Chris Post defeated UB's Octavian Stane (Toronto, Ontario/Leaside), 6-2, 7-5. At number five, UB's Alexis Lluis (Mexico City, Mexico/Colegio Americano de Tabasco) was defeated by St. Bonaventure's Diego Valdenegro, 6-1, 6-1. In the number six match, Juan Carlos Wynter (Puebla, Mexico/American School) lost to Enric Larregola, 6-4, 6-0.

St. Bonaventure won the opening doubles point with victories in two of the three matches. The lone win for the Bulls in doubles came from Kolomytes and Wynter, paired together for the first time this season, as they downed Luce and Post, 8-4.

The Bulls travel to Colgate next Saturday for a 2:00 pm match.
