Men's Tennis Puts Penguins On Ice, 5-2 Bulls pick up non-conference victory over Youngstown State
BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team improved to 2-1 for the spring season as the Bulls defeated the visiting Youngstown State Penguins, 5-2, Saturday afternoon at the Village Glen Tennis Center. The Bulls jumped out to a quick lead as they swept the three doubles matches. The number two tandem of Mitch Zenaty and Alexey Kalinin won the deciding point with their 8-5 victory over Tariq Ismail and Christopher Leson. The Bulls gained the sweep after Octavian Stane and Kristof Custers rallied from a 5-1 deficit to force a tiebreaker, downing Steve D'Angelo and Robert Emig, 8-6, in the breaker.
UB took the top four spots on the singles ladder. Custers snared the deciding point with his 6-0, 6-4 victory over D'Angelo to put the Bulls ahead 4-1. Kirill Kolomyts finished the match with 10-8 super-tiebreaker win over Ismail. Kolomyts dropped the opening set in another 10-8 tiebreaker before taking the second set, 6-4. The Bulls meet local rival Niagara on Friday, February 12 in their next contest.
