KALAMAZOO, MI - The University at Buffalo men's tennis team opened the Mid-American Conference portion of its schedule with a 7-0 loss to defending league champion Western Michigan on Friday night at the West Hills Athletic Club in Kalamazoo, MI. UB is now 1-4 overall and 0-1 in league play while the Broncos, ranked 69th in the latest poll released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, is now 5-2, 1-0 MAC.

UB was swept in the doubles matches to open play but the number three team of Matt Kennedy (Mississauga, Ontario/Erindale) and Albert Alant (Pretoria, South Africa/Niskayuna (NY)) pushed WMU's Jeff French and Bryan Norville to the limit, falling 9-8.

The Bulls were unable to win a set against a much-stronger Bronco lineup in singles play. Mike Rockman (Toronto, Ontario/Thornill) and Josh Liederman (Queens Village, NY/Benjamin Cardozo) each won seven games against their opponents. Rockman, at number two, was defeated by Jose Orozco, 6-4, 6-3 while Liederman, at number three, was decisioned by French, 6-3, 6-4.
