Men's Tennis Drops Match Against Xavier
CLEVELAND, OH – The University at Buffalo men’s tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Atlantic 10 member Xavier on Sunday afternoon. The match was played on neutral ground at the Cleveland Skating Club. The Bulls (0-4) captured a pair of singles matches for their two team points. At first singles, UB’s Nikesh Singh Panthlia (George Town, Malaysia/BMK Penang Free School) scored a straight-sets win over Xavier’s Chris Herrlinger, 6-2, 6-4. At second singles, Marcelo Mazzetto (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Carlos Magno) downed Xavier’s J.T. Torbeck, also in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
Two other singles matches went the full three sets with the Bulls dropping both matchups. At number three, Kirill Kolomytes (Moscow, Russia/Moscow High School 155) lost to Ra’ees Ismail, 0-6, 6-4, 6-4. In the number four match, UB’s Octavian Stane (Toronto, Ontario/Leaside) fell to Brian Starr, 6-2, 1-6, 6-3. The Bulls won one of the three doubles matches to open the contest as the top duo of Kolomytes and Mazzetto knocked off Herrlinger and Doug Matthews, 8-4. Xavier (2-3) won the number two and three doubles matches to claim the opening point. The Bulls travel to Ithaca to face Cornell on Saturday, February 2 at 2:00 pm.
