UB Tennis Coach Receives HonorBUFFALO, NY- UB men's tennis coach Russ Crispell was recently honored for some of his outstanding accomplishments by the United States Tennis Association. Crispell was named the 1998 Western New York College Coach of the Year and also receieved the 1998 USPTA Eastern Division College Tennis Coach of the Year Award. The Eastern Division includes all colleges and universites in the state of New York, northern New Jersey and southern Connecticut. In addition, Crispell represented Division I coaches on a USTA panel speaking on the "Perspectives of Coaching College Tennis." These awards were presented to Crispell at the USTA's Annual Seminar and Awards Dinner at White Plains, NY. In addition to his duties as head coach for UB, Crispell serves as the USTA District 15 Delegate, and is the only tennis professional in the greater Buffalo area certified by both the USPTA and the USPTR. These awards show the success that Crispell has had at the University at Buffalo. Last fall, his team finished with a 6-2 record and are eager to begin play in the Mid-American Conference this spring. He carries a career record of 73-48 since becoming the Bulls head coach back in 1994. Crispell and and the men's tennis team will begin their spring season this weekend when they take
part in the Cornell Invitational.
