2006-07: Earned Academic All-MAC honors in 2006-07 season. Finished 13th in 200 backstroke (1:58.37) and 15th in the 200 freestyle (1:46.45). Also part of three freestyle relay teams, helping the Bulls to season-best times in the 400 (3:10.43) and 800 (6:50.56) relay events. 2005-06: Finished 14th in the 200 backstroke (1:56.84) and 15th in the 100 backstroke (54.41) at the MAC Championships. Set lifetime-bests in the 100 backstroke (53.72), 200 backstroke (1:55.89) and 200 freestyle (1:47.42) at Akron’s SummaCare Invitational in December. High School: Named team MVP at Merivale High School during his junior and senior seasons. Swam for four years with the Napean Kanata Barracudas club team for head coach Dave Heinbuch. Set the club record in the 200 backstroke for his age group. Personal: Born December 5, 1987. Son of Gang Shi and Ping Xu. Given first name is Haojiang, but goes by Richard. Favorite food is chicken alfredo. Favorite athletes include Roger Federer and Canadian swimmer Brent Hayden. Majoring in biochemical pharmacology with a goal of becoming a dentist.
