Hickey Becomes First UB MAC Champ
YPSILANTI, MI- Men's swimmer Dan Hickey (Brockport,
NY) became the first MAC Champion for the University at Buffalo during this past weekends men's swimming MAC Championships. The Bulls as a
team finished in sixth with 260.0 team points and Miami-OH took the team title.
Hickey captured first place in the 200-freestyle, finishing with a time of 1:39.76. With that win, he becomes
the first UB representative, individual or team, to capture a Mid-American Conference title. His efforts also led
him to be named to the MAC All-Conference first team.
In addition to his finish in the 200 freestyle, Hickey also placed sixth in the 100-freestyle and ninth in the
500-freestyle. He, along with teammates John Nilles (Staten Island,
NY), Brian Bethelotte (Nashua,
NY) and Josh Pun (Alberta,
Canada) finished fourth with a time of 3:05.45 in the 400-freestyle relay team.
Other top finishers for the Bulls included Nilles, who placed sixth in the 50-freestyle and
Eric Stimson (North Tonawanda,NY) who placed fifth in the 200 backstroke and six in the 100 backstroke.
