Men's Swimming Weekly Release

Bulls Dump Niagara, 151-74

The Bulls did not lose a single event they were entered in as UB dumped the Niagara Purple Eagles 151-74 at Alumni Natatorium December 7. UB improved to 2-2 overall in dual meet competition.

The Bulls won the first 12 of the 13 scheduled events on the evening, not entering a squad in the final event, the 400 free relay.

Leading the way for UB was senior Jason McLachlan (Arvada, CO) winning the 200 freestyle in 1:43.92 and 200 individual medley in 2:03.39. He also clocked the fastest time in the 200 breaststroke, 2:13.56, as an exhibition entrant.

Dexter Tatum (Gainesville, GA) also won a pair of events turning in a lifetime best of 21.73 to take the 50 freestyle shaving two-tenths of a second of his previous best while also emerging victorious in the 200 butterfly in 1:55.52, cutting 13-hundreths of a second from his previous best in that event.

Also turning in a lifetime best performance was freshman Alan Lowe (Brownsville, TX) who took the 1000 freestyle in 9:52.28 slicing 15 seconds from his previous best set at the Nittany Lion Invitational last weekend. Lowe also turned in the fastest time by a Bull this season in the event and the sixth-fastest 1000 freestyle in the Mid-American Conference this season.

Bulls' freshman diver Mike Lampo (Frewsburg, NY) was also a double-winner taking the one-meter competition with 267 points and the three-meter event with 234.15 points.

Lifetime Bests

The Bulls, under 14th-year head coach Budd Termin, have produced 45 lifetime best times this season and 36 in the month of December between the dual meet with Niagara and the Nittany Lion Invitational held December 1-3.

Against their toughest competition of the season, the Bulls compiled 21 of their lifetime bests at the Nittany Lion Invitational.

At the Penn State meet, Jason McLachlan set lifetime bests in both the 400 I.M. (4:03.33) and 1650 freestyle (16:04.49).

Distance freestyle Alan Lowe has shown steady improvement in his events establishing lifetime bests in the last three meets. Lowe has dropped his best 500 time from 4:54.35 set November 18 to 4:50.21 set in the preliminaries of the Nittany Lion Invite. His 1000 time of 9:52.28 set in the Niagara meet is more than 15 seconds faster than his previous best of 10:07.73 also set November 18.

Up Next

The Bulls take the remainder of December off for final exams and the Christmas holidays. UB next takes to the pool for a Mid-American Conference double dual meet at Bowling Green on January 20. UB will also be facing Ball State in the same meet.
