Bulls Pick Up First Victory of SeasonBUFFALO, NY - The University of Buffalo's men's swim team picked up its first victory of the season Thursday night with a 147-60 non-conference decision over Niagara at Alumni Arena Natatorium. The Bulls are now 1-2 in dual meets this season while the Purple Eagles fall to 0-7.
Distance freestyler Alan Lowe (Brownsville, TX/Hanna) won two events with victories in the 500 freestyle (4:49.91) and 1000 freestyle (season-best 9:57.34). Other individual winners for the Bulls included Oren in the 200 breaststroke (2:13.53), Askan in the 200 butterfly (2:02.05), Kotowski in the 100 freestyle (48.85), Jon Yarger (Centre Hill, PA/Penns Valley) in the 200 freestyle (1:47.80), Mike Szyprowski (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) in the 200 individual medley (2:02.1) and Jim Taravella (Hamburg, NY/Orchard Park) in the one-meter diving (season-best 240.10 points). Niagara's 400 freestyle relay squad of Greg Klin, Will Harrop, Matt Tennant and Gren Harrop turned in a 3:41.59 in the night's final event. The Bulls now take the rest of the month off for exams and the holidays. UB travels to
Niagara for a January 12 meet in its next action. |
