AKRON, Ohio – The University at Buffalo men's swimming and diving team completed the third and final day of SummaCare Invitational Sunday with an explosive day in the pool. The team posted strong finishes that included four top 10 finishes in one race and two top 10 finishes in another.

Junior Luke Adams (Quinnesec, MI/Kingsford) led the charge in the 200 backstroke event by taking third in a UB season-best 1:53.83, two seconds better than his previous season best. Following close behind were freshman Richard Shi (Ottawa, Ontario/Merivale) and senior Jeff Hurst (Rochester, NY/Greece-Athena), who placed sixth and seventh in times of 1:55.89 and 1:58.54, respectively. This was Hurst's first 200 backstrokes race of the season, while Shi's time was a lifetime-best. Rounding up the top 10 in the race was senior Kurt Bessel (Mexico, NY/Mexico Academy), who finished in a season-best 1:57.83. Adams also posted a lifetime-best on the opening leg of the 400 freestyle relay.

St. Bonaventure took home the men's title, outscoring their opponents with 1,630.5 points. Following St. Bonaventure was Xavier, then Clarion University, Duquesne, and Ohio. Buffalo rounded out the field with 892 total points.

The men's swimming and diving team next compete on January 12, when they travel to local rival Canisius at 1 p.m.
