Men's Swimmers Drop Season Opener
OXFORD, OH - The University at Buffalo men's swimming and diving team opened the 2004-05 campaign with a 147-82 loss to Mid-American Conference rival Miami (Ohio) Saturday afternoon at the Corwin Nixon Aquatic Center. The Bulls claimed four of the 13 events with two victories coming after the RedHawks exhibitioned the races. Sophomore Luke Adams (Quinnesec, MI/Kingsford) won the 200-yard backstroke in 1:57.92. Adams also raced the opening leg of UB's winning 400-yard freestyle relay team as the Bulls touched the wall in 3:23.00. Adams was followed into the water by Jon Yarger (Centre Hall, PA/Penns Valley), Kevin Gatley (Charlton, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Spa) and Aaron Moessinger (Elma, NY/Iroquois). Mark Sy (Scarborough, Ontario/Mary Ward CSS) claimed a victory in the 200-yard butterfly in 1:57.76 while Geoff Wells (Waterville, OH/Anthony Wayne) won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:12.47. Jeff Hurst (Rochester, NY/Greece-Athena) narrowly missed a victory in the 200-yard individual medley, finishing in 1:58.94, just two-hundredths of a second behind first-place Blake Norman (1:58.92). Yarger also finished second in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:56.63. The Bulls open the home portion of the schedule next Saturday as they host MAC rival Ohio
at Alumni Arena Natatorium at 1:00 pm. |
