BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo men's swimming and diving team fell to visiting Miami (OH), 144-95, Saturday afternoon in Mid-American Conference action at UB's Alumni Arena Natatorium. The Bulls are now 0-2 overall and in league play while the RedHawks improve to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the MAC.

UB won four of the meet's first five events and held an early 48-43 lead, but Miami took seven of the final eight races to claim the victory. The RedHawks had just come off an eight-point win at Cleveland State Friday night.

The Bulls got a strong afternoon from senior Jeff Hurst (Rochester, NY/Greece-Athena) with two victories and spot on a winning relay team. Hurst opened the meet by anchoring the winning 400-yard medley relay team, which also included Richard Shi (Ottawa, Ontario/Merivale), Leandro Souza (Rio de Janiero, Brazil/Missouri State) and Kevin Schuster (Rochester, NY/Greece-Athena). The UB foursome touched the wall first in 3:36.82, nearly four seconds ahead of Miami's top relay squad.

Hurst also took a pair of individual races. He won the 200-yard individual medley in 1:58.90 and then followed with victory in the 100-yard freestyle in 48.77, just touching out Miami's Zachary Siegel by .14 seconds.

Luke Adams (Quinnesec, MI/Kingsford) established his second lifetime best in as many days to win the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:47.15. Adams won the same event on Friday against Ball State in 9:58.50.

Mike Gerlach (Penfield, NY/Penfield) claimed the first victory of his collegiate career in the 200-yard freestyle. Gerlach established a lifetime best with his 1:44.47 finish and helped the Bulls to a one-two finish in the event with Kevin Gatley (Charlton, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) taking second in 1:46.23. Gerlach also established a second lifetime best opening the 400-yard freestyle relay to a 3:16.00 clocking to finish second.

The Bulls take an extended break before returning to the water. UB travels to Akron's Summa Care Invitational starting December 2.
