UB Men's Swimming Announces Awards
Lynch, Moessinger, Adams earn accolades
BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo men's swimming and diving squad presented its team awards for the 2005-06 season at the annual Athletic Awards Banquet held at the Millennium Hotel on May 2.
Head coach Budd Termin made the following presentations: Cassidy Lynch (Westminster, CO/Legacy) was selected as the Top Newcomer; Aaron Moessinger (Elma, NY/Elma) earned the Most Improved Player Award; and Luke Adams (Quinnesec, MI/Kingsford) was named Most Outstanding for the second consecutive season.
Cassidy Lynch | The Top Newcomer Award is presented to the individual student-athlete who distinguishes himself as the most talented new player on the team or the individual who accomplishes the greatest achievements as a first-year player. Lynch broke the UB three-meter diving record and won the ECAC title in the event with a six-dive total of 333.40 points. He also won the one-meter crown at the meet with 284.00 points and became the first UB diver since Patrick Lee in 2004 to earn an ECAC diving title. He also finished fourth on the one-meter board and sixth on the three-meter board at the Mid-American Conference Championships. He also represented the Bulls at the NCAA Zone Diving Championships in Annapolis, MD, turning in a sixth-place finish in the one-meter competition.
Aaron Moessinger | The Most Improved Player Award is presented to the student-athlete who has made the greatest stride or improvement in his performance from the previous season or from the beginning of the season to the end of the season. Moessinger was UB's top distance butterflier in 2005-06. He posted three lifetime-best times in butterfly races at the MAC Championships, including a 1:55.54 clocking in the 200-yard butterfly, UB's best time in the event on the season.
Luke Adams | The Most Outstanding Award is given to the student-athlete who makes the most significant contribution to the accomplishments of the team through his skills and leadership. Adams was UB's top backstroker and last season added distance freestyle races to his repertoire. He had a fifth-place finish in his specialty, the 200-yard backstroke (1:53.72) and a seventh-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (season-best 52.86) at the MAC Championships. He also finished sixth in the finals of the 500-yard freestyle at the ECAC Championships, turning in a season-best 4:39.47 in the preliminary round. Following UB's dual-meet victory over Niagara, Adams was honored by the league at its Men's Swimmer and Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
The Bulls completed their season with a 2-5 overall record. The Bulls placed fifth at the MAC Championships and earned an eighth-place finish at the ECAC Championships. It was the ninth time in the last 10 years that UB has finished in the top-10 at the ECAC meet.
