Bulls Swim in NationalsBUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo men's swimming team traveled to Federal Way, WA to take part in the 2000 Phillips 66 National Championships between March 28 to April 1. The Bulls placed an impressive 24th out of a field of 53 of the nation's best Division I and club swim teams. Buffalo also competed against Olympic athletes and medal-winners. The Bulls best finish of the meet came in the 800 freestyle relay where Dan Hickey (Brockport, NY), Kevin Kelly (Webster, NY), Josh Pun (Edmonton, Alberta), and John Nilles (Staten Island, NY) placed eighth with a time of 3:37.30. Hickey also competed in the 100 (56th place, :52.75), and 200 (50th place, 1:55.38) freestyles where he achieved personal best times in both events, and in the 400 freestyle relay (15th place, 3:37.30) along with Dexter Tatum (Gainesville, GA), Pun, and Nilles. Hickey, currently five-tenths-of-a-second away from qualifying for the 200 freestyle
Olympic time trials, will have another chance at qualification as he swims at Erie Community College this
weekend. |
