Jeff Hurst Earns Academic All-MAC Honor
Hurst, an accounting major with a 3.68 grade point average, was one of the Bulls' top swimmers throughout the 2005-06 season. He posted a lifetime-best time at the ECAC Championships in Pittsburgh. He swam 1:43.11 for the opening 200 yards of the 800-yard freestyle relay as the Bulls put together a 6:56.21 time in the race. He also scored another lifetime-best with his 1:57.07 clocking in the 200-yard butterfly at the MAC Championships in Athens, OH. He was also part of all three freestyle relay squads during the championship meets, helping the Bulls achieve season-best times in each race. He also led the Bulls in both the 200 and 400-yard individual medley with the team's fastest times in both events. At Akron's SummaCare Invitational in December, Hurst turned in a 1:56.16 for the 200-yard race and came back with a 4:07.61 clocking for the 400-yard distance. A total of 14 athletes from all five of the MAC's men’s swim programs made the 2006 list. The number is either set for a specific sport or 33 percent of the number of nominees, whichever is greater. The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, student-athletes must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. |
