McLachlan Shines at MACsThe Bulls were in Oxford, Ohio for the Mid-American Conference Championships. UB placed seventh of the eight teams with 184 points to hold off Bowling Green, who placed eighth with 183 points. Eastern Michigan won the championship with 888 points. Senior Jason McLachlan (Arvada, CO) closed out his UB career in impressive fashion. McLachlan set three school records in three consecutive nights for the Bulls to earn First Team All-MAC honors. McLachlan opened the meet by breaking Ray Willie's 10-year old mark in the 500 freestyle. McLachlan finished second in the finals in 4:31.47 breaking Willie's record by eight-hundreths of a second. On Friday, McLachlan broke his own mark in the 400 individual medley. McLachlan finished second in 3:57.87, snapping his old mark by nearly four seconds and becoming the first Bull to swim the event in under four minutes. Miami's John Carroll won the race in a MAC record 3:51.85. Saturday, McLachlan broke the 200 backstroke record twice. In the morning preliminaries, he turned in a 1:49.07, breaking Korry Miller's 1997 record by a quarter second. In the finals, McLachlan bettered his earlier time with a 1:48.70 showing again finishing second in the race. Senior Eric Stimson (North Tonawanda, NY) placed 16th in the event in 1:59.76. The 800 free relay team of McLachlan, Tony Lizauckas (Kenmore, NY), Kotowski and Pun placed sixth in 6:56.95 and Tatum, Lizauckas, Pun and Kotowski combined for a seventh place effort in the 200 free relay in 1:25.47. Pun placed 15th in the 100 butterfly in 51.39. In the diving events, Mike Lampo (Frewsburg, NY) was 15th on the 1-meter board with 200.35 points and 16th in the 3-meter competition with 298.80 points. McLachlan also swam the anchor leg of the 400 free relay squad along with Kevin Kotowski (Wilmington, DE), Dexter Tatum (Gainesville, GA) and Josh Pun (Edmonton, Alberta).
