McDowell, Carpenter Post Strong Platform Results
PISCATAWAY, NJ – University at Buffalo freshman divers Michael McDowell (Rush, NY/Rush-Henrietta) and Meili Carpenter (Boulder, CO/Fairview) completed action on Sunday in the platform diving finals as the NCAA Zone A Championships wrapped up at the Rutgers Aquatics Center in Piscataway, NJ. McDowell finished second among four divers in the men's final with 614.50 points. Princeton's Stuart Malcolm totaled 641.60 points to win the competition. McDowell also placed second to Malcolm following the preliminary round. McDowell tallied 301.70 points to Malcolm's 312.85 total.
McDowell finished eighth in the one-meter finals on Friday and 14th in the three-meter finals on Saturday. Carpenter scored a fourth-place finish on the women's one-meter board on Saturday after placing 11th in the three-meter finals on Saturday. The zone championships were held in five geographic regions this weekend with slots available in the upcoming NCAA Championships to the top finishers in each region. Four men and five women competed in the platform event on Sunday. Nearly 60 men's and women's divers competed in the one- and three-meter events over the weekend. |
