Second Day of ECAC Championships Ends
PITTSBURGH, PA - With two days of the three-day ECAC Championships in the books, the University at Buffalo men's swimming team holds sixth-place among 27 scoring teams. UB has 186 points, just two ahead of seventh-place Binghamton. Johns Hopkins holds the lead with 307.50 points with Marist in second at 279. Columbia (256), Seton Hall (243) and Rider (192.50) are also ahead of the Bulls. The meet is being hosted by the University of Pittsburgh.
In the 100 breaststroke, junior Geoff Wells (Waterville, OH/Anthony Wayne) reached the championship final, scoring a sixth-place finish in 58.54. Junior Jon Yarger (Centre Hill, PA/Penns Valley) finished 12th in the 200 freestyle in 1:43.76, a season-best, cutting .04 seconds from his qualifying mark (1:43.80) and more than two seconds from his previous season-best. Sophomore Kurt Bessel (Mexico, NY/Mexico Academy) placed 16th in the 100 backstroke in 54.66. Sy, Hurst, Yarger and freshman Luke Adams (Quinnesec, MI/Kingsford) comprised the Bulls' 800 freestyle relay squad. The combo finished fourth in 6:56.55. The meet concludes on Sunday.
