Bulls Fifth Following First Night of ECACs
PITTSBURGH, PA - Through the first night of the Men's ECAC Swimming and Diving Championships at the University of Pittsburgh's Trees Pool, the University at Buffalo holds fifth place among 23 scoring teams with 91 points. Johns Hopkins (134.50) and Marist (134) hold the top two spots with Seton Hall (122) and Columbia (104.50) third and fourth, respectively. UB sophomore Patrick Lee (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) scored a third-place finish in the three-meter diving competition. Lee turned in an 11-dive total of 434.55 points. Other championship finalists included junior Jon Yarger (Centre Hill, PA/Penns Valley). Yarger placed eighth in the 500 freestyle in 4:43.84 after qualifying in a season-best 4:38.05. UB's 200 freestyle relay team also reached the championship round. The team of Jeff Hurst (Rochester, NY/Greece-Athena), Ryan Cahill (Mendon, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima), Kevin Gatley (Charlton, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and Erik Schwarz (Fairport, NY/Fairport) completed the race in 1:26.46 to take sixth place overall. Two Bulls reached the consolation round of the 200 individual medley. Junior Mark Sy (Scarborough, Ontario/Mary Ward CSS) placed 11th overall in a season-best 1:55.22 while Hurst finished 16th in 1:57.19. Competition continues through Sunday. |
