Bulls Place Eighth at ECACs

The Bulls finished eighth among 32 scoring teams at the ECAC Championships in Sewell, N.J. UB scored a total of 186 points while Maryland-Baltimore County won the team competition with 617 points.

UB senior Jason McLachlan (Arvada, CO) took a pair of fourth-place finishes. In the 500 freestyle he clocked a season-best 4:37.98 after posting a 4:38.60 in the preliminaries. McLachlan followed with a 4:04.46 showing in the 400 individual medley.

Senior Josh Pun (Edmonton, Alberta) won the consolation final of the 100 butterfly in a season-best 51.82 while Dexter Tatum (Gainesville, GA) was 11th recording a season-best in 52.12. In the 200 butterfly, Tatum was fifth in another season-best 1:55.02 while Pun was sixth in 1:55.24.

Eric Stimson (North Tonawanda, NY) took fourth in the 100 backstroke in 51.62.

Freshman distance specialist Alan Lowe (Brownsville, TX) turned in a career-best time of 16:51.74 in the 1650 freestyle. Lowe placed 13th in the race. He also clocked a 4:56.24 in the 500 freestyle.

Sophomore Tony Lizauckas (Kenmore, NY) reached the finals in the 200 backstroke. Lizauckas turned in a 1:58.08 showing in the event to take 16th after posting a 1:57.58 mark in the preliminaries. Lizauckas finished his 100 backstroke in 55.12 but did not make the finals.

The Bulls' 400 medley relay squad placed sixth in 3:32.22 while their 200 medley team took seventh in 1:39.41. UB took 10th in the 200 free relay in 1:27.39 and 14th in the 400 free relay in 3:15.37.

Up Next

The Bulls look to capitalize on their strong ECAC showing with an equally impressive weekend at the Mid-American Conference Championships. The meet is March 1-3 at Miami's Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center in Oxford, OH. The Bulls placed sixth in last season's competition.
