The 800-yard freestyle relay team led the Bulls with a fifth-place finish in the meet's final event of the evening. UB's foursome of Jeff Hurst (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena), Kevin Schuster (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena), Kevin Gatley (Charlton, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Spa) and Luke Adams (Quinnesec, MI/Kingsford) posted a season-best time for the Bulls in 6:56.21, slicing three seconds off the previous best set at Akron's SummaCare Invitational in December. Hurst's opening split of 1:43.11 for the first 200 yards of the race was a lifetime-best for the senior.

UB's 200-yard medley relay squad reached the championship race of its event, finishing eighth in 1:38.77. The foursome of backstroker Kurt Bessel (Mexico, NY/Mexico Academy), breaststroker Leandro Souza (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Missouri State), butterflier Gatley and freestyler Schuster posted a season-best mark of 1:38.57 in the preliminary heat to reach the championship final.

Individually, Hurst finished second in the 400-yard individual medley consolation final, 10th overall, in 4:08.71. Bessel was fourth in the 100-yard backstroke consolation final, 12th overall, in a season-best 53.06, just one-hundredth off his lifetime-best mark. Gatley posted a 16th-place overall finish in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:46.54, after turning in a lifetime-best 1:44.50 in the preliminaries.

The meet concludes on Sunday.
