PITTSBURGH, PA - The University at Buffalo men's swimming team is tied for 16th place after the first day of the ECAC Championships at the University of Pittsburgh's Trees Pool.

The Bulls scored all 10 of their points in the opening event, the 200-yard freestyle relay on Friday night, but lost the chance to move up when the 400-yard medley relay was disqualified.

The 200-yard freestyle team finished in 1:27.13, fourth in the consolation race and 12th overall. The foursome included Kevin Gatley (Charlton, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), Jon Yarger (Centre Hall, PA/Penns Valley), Mark Sy (Scarborough, Ontario/Mary Ward CSS) and Erik Schwarz (Fairport, NY/Fairport). The foursome qualified for the consolation final with a 1:28.39 clocking, 12th-best showing in the preliminary round.

Yarger and Schwarz also raced in individual events on the first day but did not crack the top 16 for the finals. Yarger finished 32nd in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:48.38. Schwarz turned in a 2:00.79 showing in the preliminaries of the 200-yard individual medley, finishing 38th overall.

The Bulls are currently tied with Pennsylvania for 16th place with 10 points apiece. Rider leads the men's portion of the meet with 138 points while Maryland-Baltimore County is second at 122. Twenty men's teams have scored thus far in the meet which continues through Sunday.
