BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo freshman diver Michael McDowell (Rush, NY/Rush-Henrietta) set a new school record on the one-meter springboard but it wasn't enough as the Bulls dropped a 129-114 decision to Western New York rival St. Bonaventure in the regular season finale for both teams at Alumni Arena Natatorium on Thursday evening.

McDowell scored a six-dive total of 323.77 points to win the one-meter diving competition by 80 points over the second-place finisher, St. Bonaventure's C.J. Maurer, as the freshman swept both springboard events. His 323.77 point total bettered the previous mark of 314.10 set in 2004 by Patrick Lee and tied on November 17, 2006 by McDowell against Canisius. McDowell also won the three-meter event with a total score of 287.33.

Senior Luke Adams (Quinnesec, MI/Kingsford), swimming in his final home dual meet for the Bulls, won two events. Adams took the 200-yard freestyle in a season-best 1:44.19. He later won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:44.24.

Other individual winners for the Bulls included Kevin Schuster (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.04 and Zach Ruske (Superior, CO/Monarch) in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:55.73.

Scott Woster (North Pole, AK/North Pole) won the 200-yard butterfly by the slimmest of margins for the Bulls. The freshman touched out St. Bonaventure's Roman Margulis by six-hundredths of a second as Woster held onto the advantage after leading by two seconds heading into the final 50 yards.

The meet stayed tight throughout with UB (3-4) holding a 103-102 lead heading into the final two events. However, St. Bonaventure's Mariusz Michalik won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:07.35 and the foursome of Dan Freeland, Ceyhan Guler, Aroldo Nery and Chris Ekimoff took the 400-yard freestyle relay to close the meet and provide the margin of victory for the Bonnies (5-5).

Prior to the meet, the Bulls saluted their two seniors, Adams and Aaron Moessinger (Elma, NY/Iroquois).

UB hosts the Mid-American Conference Championships on February 22-24 at Alumni Arena Natatoriu. Prior to that the Bulls will compete in their first postseason event on the schedule, the ECAC Championships in Cambridge, MA, starting February 16.
