Luke Adams Wins Weekly MAC Award

BUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo men's swimmer Luke Adams (Quinnesec, MI/Kingsford) was named the Mid-American Conference's Men's Swimmer of the Week. The league announced the award Tuesday in Cleveland.

Adams, a junior backstroker and distance freestyler was instrumental in UB's two dual meets last week. Against Niagara at UB's Alumni Arena on January 18, he won both distance freestyle races. He took the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:55.63 and later turned in a 4:44.08 clocking to win the 500-yard freestyle, posting a season-best in the latter race. The Bulls defeated the Purple Eagles, 107-73, for UB's 26th straight win against Niagara.

In UB's 125-74 MAC loss at Ohio on Saturday, Adams won two more races and added a relay win. He took first place in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:40.90, less than two seconds off his lifetime best, set earlier this season, and also won his signature event, the 200-yard backstroke in 1:55.53 to lead the Bulls to a one-two finish in the race. Adams also was part of UB's victorious 400-yard freestyle relay (3:11.49) against the Bobcats.

Adams currently ranks in the top 10 in three MAC events this season. He is second in the 200-yard backstroke (1:53.83), fourth in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:39.17) and eighth in the 500-yard freestyle (4:44.08). In UB's five dual meets this season, he is undefeated in both the 1,000-yard freestyle (5-0) and 200-yard backstroke (3-0). He did not race the backstroke against Miami (OH) or Niagara.

This is the second time that Adams has been named MAC Swimmer of the Week in his career. He also picked up the honor last season with his strong performance at the ECAC Championships.

The Bulls (2-3 overall, 0-3 MAC) travel to St. Bonaventure for a non-conference meet Thursday, January 26 at 6:00 pm.
