The University at Buffalo men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams got back into the win column with a pair of convincing victories over regional rival Niagara on Saturday at Niagara’s Oxy Aquatics Center. The UB men scored a 148-89 win over the Purple Eagles while the women defeated Niagara, 155-76.

In the men’s contest against Niagara, the Bulls won nine events highlighted by a pair of wins by sophomore Scott Woster (North Pole, AK/North Pole). Woster won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:00.99 and the 100-yard butterfly in 52.84. The Niagara meet was the first of the season for Woster, who was sidelined during the first half of the season.

The UB women spread the wealth around with seven individuals winning swim events. Sophomore Sam Palma (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) set a season best with her victory in the 200-yard freestyle. Palma touched the wall in 1:57.95, cutting five seconds off her previous best.

Meanwhile, a pair of UB freshmen also posted season-best marks in winning their races. Freestyler Brandon Beckinghausen (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville North) won the 1,000-yard event in a season-best 10:18.93, eight seconds better than his previous mark. Sterling Gell (Lansing, NY/Lansing) also scored a season-best with his win in the 100-yard backstroke in 58.27, more than a second better than the 59.46 he had previously set.
