Bulls Drown Purple Eagles, 107-73
BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo men's swimming team evened its dual meet record at 2-2 with a 107-73 non-conference victory against Niagara on Wednesday night at UB's Alumni Arena Natatorium. The victory was also the 26th straight triumph by the Bulls over the Purple Eagles (5-4) in the all-time series.
Senior Kevin Gatley (Charlton, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:47.16. Sophomore Mike Hurst (Rochester, NY/Greece-Athena) took the 200-yard butterfly in 2:00.57. Freshman Richard Shi (Ottawa, Ontario/Merivale) won the 200-yard backstroke in 1:59.15. Sophomore Leandro Souza (Rio de Janiero, Brazil/Missouri State) took the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:19.33.
Niagara's David Germain took the one- and three-meter diving competitions. Germain scored 161.10 points on the one-meter board and 189.30 points on the three-meter board. Prior to the meet, the Bulls honored their senior class of Jeff Hurst, Gatley and Kurt Bessel (Mexico, NY/Mexico Academy) in the final home meet of the season. The Bulls travel to Athens, OH for Saturday's Mid-American Conference meet with Ohio
University. The meet starts at 1:00 pm. |
