Bulls 10-3 Heading Into WeekendThe Bulls ventured to the University of Virginia, which had been ranked as high as third in some polls, and bowed, 5-1, on Sept. 30. Buffalo avoided a shutout when Luke Bakun scored his third of the year with under a minute to play. Buffalo then "returned to its own league," actually, more appropriately, "entered its own league" and began Mid-American Conference play on Oct. 2 by shutting out host Eastern Michigan, 1-0, behind Brian McCallion's scoring and Jim Schoenberg's goalkeeping. The shutout was Schoenberg's fifth of the season. Two days later, the Bulls improved their conference record to 2-0 and their overall mark to 10-3 by downing Bowling Green, 2-1. Brian Cruickshank scored his first goal of the season for Buffalo and teammate Steve Butcher notched his 11th (and the game-winner) to break a 1-1 tie with the hosts. The Bulls entertain the University of Kentucky, like UB, 2-0 in the MAC, Friday , Oct. 9.
The Wildcats, a member of the MAC in men's soccer only, carry a six-match winning streak into
the match and are 6-5 overall.
