Men's Soccer Bulls Back on Winning TrackJohn Shannon scored his first goal of the season in the first half Tuesday, then set up teammate Doug Geller for a breakaway tally in the second as the University at Buffalo men's soccer team defeated visiting St. Francis (Pa.), 2-0, to improve its record to 8-2. The Bulls played the game without leading goal-scorer Steve Butcher, who sat out because of a hamstring pull suffered in Sunday's 2-0 loss at Siena. Butcher had tailled half of UB's 20 goals this season entering the St. Francis game. With 4 1/2 minutes to play in the opening half, Shannon, a sophomore from Clifton Park, drilled a high 18-yarder past Red Flash goalkeeper Jim Lushok to give the Bulls only tally they needed. The score was his first as a Bull. Then, at the 83:35 mark, Geller, a senior from Dix Hills, beat Lushok on a breakaway off of a feed from Shannon to close the scoring. The goal was also the first in his UB career for Geller, who plays defense. UB goalkeeper Jim Schoenberg recorded his fourth shutout of the season. The loss dropped the Red Flash to 2-6. Buffalo, which hadn't played at home since Sept. 1, returns to the road again for its next
match. The Bulls play Sept. 30th at Virginia, which bowed to UCLA, 2-0, in last year's NCAA
title game.
