Bulls Men's Soccer Defeats Niagara, 3-1

BUFFALO, NY -- The University at Buffalo Bulls scored three unanswered goals to defeat Niagara University 3-1 Tuesday night at RAC Field in 30-degree temperatures, wind and driving rain. UB goes to 6-6-1 while Niagara falls to 5-9-2 on the season.

Niagara's Simon Sly opened the scoring at 30:02 when he scored unassisted after taking a ball which had deflected off a UB defender, and shot the ball into the net for a 1-0 Purple Eagle lead. However, just a little over three minutes later, UB's Frank Butcher (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) tied the score at 1-1 when he fired a bobbling ball in front of the Niagara goal past the keeper. UB was outshot in the first half 4-3.

Both teams had ample scoring opportunities in the second half with neither able to capitalize. However, at 71:36, the Bulls' Steve Butcher (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) took a lead pass from Matt Yeates (Kenmore, NY/St. Joseph's) and chipped the ball over Niagara's keeper for UB's second goal of the game and a 2-1 lead. Sebastian Zawislan (Brampton, ONT/St. Augustine) closed out the scoring at 77:27 with a goal assisted by Jarek Radzinski (Jnowroclaw, POL/Bishop Marrocco). Bulls' goalkeeper Christian Barletta (Wading River, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) made eight saves to earn the win.

The Bulls will next be at home on Friday (10/24) when they host Mid-Continent Conference-foe Howard University at 7:00 pm.
