Men's Soccer Weekly ReportCurrent record - 6-3-1 (0-1-0 Mid-American Conference)Bulls Back To Winning Ways After dropping three of four games, the Bulls have rebounded to win two straight. UB defeated Siena College 2-0 and then went on the road to defeat Delaware 3-0 last Saturday.
Bulls Back To Winning Ways Goalkeeper Justin Deming (Ballston Spa, NY) was named the UB male athlete of the week. Deming recorded two shutouts this past week in a 2-0 win against Siena College and a 3-0 win at Delaware. On the season, Deming has recorded four shutouts and 43 saves. He has a goals against average of 1.21 in his first season as a starter.
Songer Continues Hot Streak Junior Tim Songer (Liverpool, NY) continues his hot play this season. Songer leads the team and the MAC in both goals scored (8) and in points (20). He has recorded one goal in seven of the ten games this season, including each of the last three games.
Bulls in Regional Rankings The Bulls 6-3-1 record has gotten some recognition for their success this year in the regional rankings. The Bulls are currently ranked sixth in the New York Region.
Closing in on the Century Mark UB Head Coach John Astudillo is closing in on a coaching milestone. With a 6-3-1 record this year, Astudillo now has 96 career victories in his 11 seasons as head coach. He needs just four more wins to reach the 100-win plateau. Another milestone he is approaching is the all-time winningest coach in UB history. Sal Esposito currently holds that mark with 109 career wins in 16 seasons of coaching.
Assault on the Records
With an assist against Delaware, Butcher moved into a tie for first in career assists with 17. Butcher already holds the career records for goals scored (39) and points scored (95). He holds the top two spots for goals scored in a season with 18 last year and 16 in 1997. He also has the single season record for points scored with 43 last year, and is third in that same category with 36 points in 1997.
Peplinski Out For The Season Junior Joe Peplinski (Syracuse, NY) will sit out the remainder of the season after a collision with Matt Sprauge of Akron. The two players were going after a header and collided in the goalie box. Peplinski suffered a fractured skull in the collision and underwent surgery on Sunday, Sept. 12. Peplinski has had a full recovery and is doing well, but will miss the rest of the season.
MAC Standings Defending conference champion Akron currently leads the MAC with a 2-0 record. Marshall is 1-0-1 while Western Michigan is 0-1-1. Buffalo and Northern Illinois are both 0-1-0. The MAC gets into full swing this weekend with four conference games.
