Four Bulls Named To New York All-Region Teams
Catchpole earns UB men's soccer's first ever first team All-Region honor
 Lee Catchpole |
BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo men's soccer team was honored as four players were named to the New York All-Region Team as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America at this past weekend's College Cup in Cary, NC. UB's four selections were tied for most in the region with Hartwick, St. John's and Hofstra, all of which made the NCAA Tournament.
Sophomore Lee Catchpole (Norwich, England/Bungay) landed UB's only First Team All-Region honor, becoming the first men's soccer player in UB history to be named to the first team. Last season, Catchpole was named to the third team after injuries sustained in the middle of the season held the first-year forward back. He finished the 2004-05 campaign with six goals and 14 points. This season, despite sitting out three games due to injuries, Catchpole rebounded and had career-bests in both goals and points. His nine goals scored was 15th-best in UB history in a single season, and his 24 points landed him in the top 10 in a single season.
Mbwana Johnson | Senior Mbwana Johnson (San Fernando, Trinidad/Pleasantville) and junior Andrae Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica/DeWitt Clinton) garnered second team All-Region selections for the first times in their careers. Johnson also received first team All-MAC honors, as he led a UB flat back defensive core that allowed only 12 goals all season while pitching a UB season-best nine shutouts, including three straight shutouts en route to the team's first ever MAC Championship appearance.
 Andrae Clarke |
Clarke had a breakout season for the Bulls, sharing the lead for goals with nine and leading the team in assists (11) and points (29), each career-bests. His 11 assists surpassed Walter Cohen's 24-year record for most assists in a single season and catapulted Clarke to fifth place for assists in a career (14) and tied him for sixth in points in a single season. Clarke was named to several teams during the season, including the College Soccer News National Team of the Week during the week of October 3 and to the Top Drawer SoccerMen's College National Team of the Season third team.
 Greg Galemore |
Senior midfielder Greg Galemore (Rochester, NY/West Morris) rounded out the selections for UB, claiming a spot on the All-Region third team. Galemore was one of four players to have played and started in all 19 games. This season, Galemore scored career bests in goals (5), assists (7) and points (17) while leading the Bulls to their best record in team history. His seven assists ties him for sixth in a single season, which includes his three assists in Buffalo's 7-0 win against Centenary that puts him in second place in assists in a single game.
The Bulls enjoyed their best season in the program's 33-year history at 14-3-2, a dramatic turnaround after going 1-12-3 just two seasons before. For a full New York All-Region rundown, visit www.nscaa.com/rankings/SeniorCollegeRankings/index_E.html.
