Butcher Named MAC Player of the YearButcher Repeat First Team Selection; Two More Bulls Named to Second TeamBUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo had three players honored by the Mid-American Conference in post season All-Conference teams. Steve Butcher (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) was named MAC Player of the Year as voted on by the conference head coaches. Butcher becomes the first UB player in any sport to earn Player of the Year honors in the MAC. He was also one of two players in the conference to be named on the All-Conference first team for the second straight season. Butcher led the MAC in scoring with 36 points (2.12 per game) and in goals scored with 14 (0.82 per game). Of his 14 goals, seven came against conference opponents. He also finished with eight assists, which was the second highest total in the conference. Butcher also holds the UB school record with 48 career goals, 19 career assists and 115 career points. The Bulls also had two players named to the All-MAC Second Team. Tim Songer (Liverpool. NY/Liverpool) and Brian McCallion (Ballston Spa, NY/Shenendehowa) were both selected to the All-MAC second team. Midfielder McCallion is a repeat selection from last year and has scored one goal and five assists on the season. Songer is second on the team in scoring this year with 11 goals and six assists for 28 points. Songer ranks third in the MAC in points and is third in the MAC in goals scored. He is one of three players in the conference (along with Butcher and Dan Parisi of Northern Illinois) with over ten goals and 25 points. The Bulls are currently 10-6-1 on the season and finished 3-4 for fifth place in the MAC.
UB will face Marshall University in the quarterfinal round of the MAC Tournament on Friday, November
5 at 1:30 p.m. at Northern Illinois University.
