Bell and Clarke Named To All-Great Lakes Region Team
Seniors land third-team honors in first year in NSCAA/adidas Great Lakes Region
 Daniel Bell |
BUFFALO, N.Y. – Senior goalkeeper Daniel Bell (Brampton, Ontario/Notre Dame) and senior forward Andrae Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica/DeWitt Clinton) were named to the All-Great Lakes Region third team Thursday morning as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA/adidas). It is the first All-Great Lakes regional honor bestowed on both players, and first in UB soccer history.
Buffalo moved into the Great Lakes region from the New York region, which disbanded at the conclusion of last season. The Bulls' new region included five 2006 College Cup participants (Illinois-Chicago, Notre Dame, Indiana, Cincinnati and Northwestern) as well as two fellow members of the Mid-American Conference: Akron and Northern Illinois.
Bell played and started in 18 games this season which included a berth in the MAC Semifinal game for the third consecutive year. He logged 1621:46 minutes in net and allowed only 16 goals. His 0.89 GAA ranks him third in the conference, while posting eight shutouts. He was also second in the MAC in Save Percentage (.807) and saves (67). With 10 additional wins from this season, Bell leaves UB as a graduating senior as the all-time winningest goalkeeper in school history with 33 career wins and tied for second all-time in GAA with 1.14. Bell was also named First Team All-MAC as well as Academic All-MAC.
 Andrae Clarke |
Clarke led the Bulls with eight goals and 19 points. The eight goals was second best in the MAC and is one shy of the Kingston, Jamaica native’s career high, which he set last season. Clarke is the third player in UB history to lead the team in both goals and points in three seasons, Ediru Okpewho being the first to do so in 1993, ‘94, and ‘96 and Steve Butcher being the second in three straight years from ‘97-’99. The graduating senior ends his UB campaign as one of the best to ever grace a UB uniform, as he sits fifth in goals with 22, second in assists with 17 and third in points with 62 total. He also earned First Team All-MAC honors.
The Bulls finished the 2006 season at 10-7-2.
