Six Bulls Named to All-MAC Teams
Dan Stevens named to All-MAC First Team and All-Tournament team
BUFFALO, NY – The Mid-American Conference recognized six members of the University at Buffalo men's soccer team with All-MAC honors. Dan Stevens (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) and Dan Bulley (Exeter, England/St. Peter's) were named to the All-MAC First Team while Daniel Bell (Brampton, Ontario/Notre Dame Secondary), Dan Gwyther (London, England/Woodcote) and Alex Marrello (Burnaby, British Columbia/Alpha Secondary) were named to the second team. In addition, Gwyther, Stevens and Robert Shuttleworth (Tonawanda, NY/Nichols) were named to the MAC All-Tournament team.
Dan Stevens | Stevens finished the season third on the team in points with eight. He scored two of the more dramatic goals of the season for UB. The first coming with eight seconds remaining in regulation time at seventh-ranked Saint Louis to give the Bulls a 3-3 tie and the second coming in the 88th minute of the MAC semifinals to break a scoreless tie against Hartwick. He was also named the offensive MVP of the 2007 UB Fall Classic. Last season, Stevens was named to the All-MAC Second Team.
Dan Bulley | Bulley led the MAC this season in both goals, with eight, and points, with 19. He was twice named MAC Player of the Week, the only player to earn the honor multiple times this season. Bulley is ranked in the top 50 nationally in goals per game. In his first season at Buffalo after transferring from West Texas A&M, Bulley started 18 matches for UB.
Daniel Bell | Bell earned All-MAC honors for the second-straight year after being named to the All-MAC First Team in 2006. This season Bell extended his school-record for career wins, he now has 35 victories in his Buffalo career. Bell finishes his outstanding UB career with 217 saves, the seventh-best mark in school history.
Dan Gwyther | Gwyther is a second team All-MAC honoree for the second-straight season. This season Gwyther appeared in 14 matches, making 13 starts. Gwyther's lone goal this season was an overtime game-winner at St. Bonaventure. His excellent work in central defense helped the Bulls post the second-fewest number of goals allowed of any team in the MAC. He was also named to the All-Tournament Team at the UB Fall Classic.
Alex Marrello | Marrello led the Bulls, and was second in the MAC, in assists this season, recording six helpers. He also scored four goals for Buffalo, including two overtime game-winners. A transfer from Cincinnati in his first year at UB, Marrello finished the year with 14 points.
Robert Shuttleworth | Shuttleworth returned from injury to earn All-Tournament honors. The semifinal match against Hartwick was Shuttleworth's first appearance in goal since October 12 at Western Michigan. Shuttleworth finished the season with a .780 save percentage, the best mark in the MAC. He recorded one shutout and made nine saves during the MAC Tournament.
Buffalo finished the 2007 season with a 10-7-2 record.
