BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Mid-American Conference announced its 2006 Men's Soccer Academic All-MAC Team Tuesday, as three Bulls were honored with the annual award. Senior Daniel Bell (Brampton, Ontario/Notre Dame) was named to his third consecutive Academic All-MAC team, while fellow seniors Kevin Balkanloo (Hudson, OH/Hudson) and Erik Jaanimagi (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) were announced as two of 12 players named to the team, and now continue the streak of at least one player on the Men's Soccer Academic All-MAC Team since the 2000-01 season.

Bell, a political science major, played and started in 18 games this season which included a berth in the MAC Semifinal game for the third consecutive year. He logged 1621:46 minutes in net and allowed only 16 goals. His 0.89 GAA ranks him third in the conference, while posting eight shutouts. He was also second in the MAC in Save Percentage (.807) and saves (67). With 10 additional wins from this season, Bell leaves UB as a graduating senior as the all-time winningest goalkeeper in school history with 33 career wins and tied for second all-time in GAA with 1.14. Bell is a member of the Phi Eta Sigma Honors Society and has a 3.65 GPA.

Balkanloo played a consistent role in the UB backfield, coming off the bench to provide a presence at the defensive marker position. A psychology major, Balkanloo posts a 3.96 GPA, which is the highest GPA on the UB squad. The Hudson, Ohio native scored his first collegiate goal against Canisius on Sept. 17 and posted his first collegiate assist in the MAC quarterfinal match against IPFW on Halloween.

Jaanimagi is an active member of the Anthropology club with a 3.46 GPA and volunteers at the Bassett House, where he proposed and led the idea of exchanging “Peace Print” flags with the Duquesne soccer team before the game on 9/22 in light of a recent store clerk shooting in their living area and the shootings that involved five Duquesne basketball players. Erik demonstrated positive leadership in UB's run at a MAC Championship this year, assisting on one of two goals scored in a win against BIG EAST opponent, Pittsburgh, to kick off the 2006 campaign.

The Bulls finished their season with a 10-7-2 record. It is the seventh time in school history the team has posted 10 or more wins, and is the third time the team had done it in consecutive years.
