Daniel Bell Named to Academic All-MAC TeamBUFFALO, NY – In his first season as starting goalkeeper for the Bulls, sophomore Daniel Bell (Brampton, Ontario / Notre Dame) was instrumental in the success of Buffalo and their 8-8-2 record. For his efforts, he was one of 12 players named to the 2004 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team.
Bell, who was hurt for most of last year, played in 17 of the 18 games for the Bulls this season and was also credited with four shutouts in his first five games. Bell hit the record books this year in both wins (eight) and goals against average (1.55). He is tied for sixth and 20th, respectively. Bell was also fifth in the MAC in saves this season with 57. Bell, who is undeclared on a major and has a 3.59 grade point average, also kept the streak alive for Buffalo, as it has managed to get at least one player on the Academic All-MAC Team since the 2000-01 season. Earlier this year Bell was named Defensive Most Valuable Player of the UB Fall Classic and has already been named to the 2004 College Sports Information Director’s of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District I Team. Bell is one of four Bulls to receive postseason honors. Joining Bell on the team are Joe Nebel, Jeremy Ashe, Kirk Gibson, and Karim Boukhemis from Marshall, Olli Lehtimaki and Jamal Shteiwi from Kentucky, Dan Picmann, Edgar Rivera, and Ryan Goldman from Western Michigan, and Cameron Knowles from the league champion Akron Zips. The Bulls finished their season with the most wins since the 2001 season and their seven-win turnaround from last season is the largest in team history.
