Three Bulls Named To Men's Soccer Academic All-MAC Team
Dave Pidgeon, Ross Tauchert and Chris Vavrina recognized by the MAC
CLEVELAND, OH - Three University at Buffalo men's soccer players were named to the Academic
All-Mid-American Conference Team on Thursday - senior midfielder
Dave Pidgeon (Dorval, Quebec/Bishop
Whelan), sophomore midfielder Ross Tauchert (Rochester, NY/Pittsford
Sutherland) and senior goalkeeper Chris Vavrina (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford
Sutherland).
 | | Dave Pidgeon | Pidgeon - who is one of four student-athletes to be named to the team for the second
consecutive year - has a 3.46 grade point average and is majoring in Management. He was one of five Bulls to
start all 16 games and recorded one assist on the season. His assist came on Mike Geller's game-winning
goal versus Central Connecticut State on September 5th. Pidgeon was named to the All-Tournament Team
at the Duquesne Classic and the UB Fall Classic.
 | | Ross Tauchert | Tauchert - who also started all 16 games for Buffalo - has a 3.75 grade point average. He
was named to the All-Tournament Team at both the UB Fall Classic and the Army Classic.
 | | Chris Vavrina | After missing a handful of games in the early season due to injury, Vavrina returned to finish
the season with a 2.18 goals against average and a .708 save percentage for the Bulls. He has a 3.57
grade point average and is majoring in Management.
UB led the MAC with three selections to the squad, which is voted on by faculty-athletic
representatives at MAC institutions. The Academic All-MAC honor is given to players who excelled in
both athletics and academics. To qualify for the team, a player must have at least a 3.20 grade point
average and must also have competed in at least 50 percent of his team's contests.
The other players selected to the 2003 Academic All-MAC Team were Cameron Knowles
and Mike Marich (Akron), David DeGraff and Eric Duda (Bowling Green), Chris Austin and Olli
Lehtimaki (Kentucky), and Andy Champion and Jason Sullivan (Northern Illinois).
