11/8/99 Weekly Release

Final record - 10-7-1 (3-4-0 Mid-American Conference)

UB Ends Season at MAC Tournament

The Bulls lost in the quarterfinal round of the MAC Tournament, held at Northern Illinois University, falling 2-1 to Marshall. The Thundering Herd gave UB their last two losses of the season following a 3-1 win over the Bulls on Oct. 31 at UB. Perry Duronio scored the lone UB goal in the 2-1 loss, the first collegiate goal of his career.

Butcher Named MAC Player of the Year

UB's Steve Butcher was selected as the Mid-American Conference Player of the Year as voted on by league coaches. Butcher finished the season with a team-best 14 goals and eight assists for 36 points. It was also the second straight year Butcher was named to the MAC First Team All-Conference.

Songer, McCallion Named to MAC Second Team

Tim Songer and Brian McCallion were both honored by the MAC for their performances this season as well. Both were named to the All-Conference Second Team as voted on by league coaches. Songer was second on the team in scoring this season with 11 goals and six assists for 28 points. McCallion, a second team All-Conference pick last year as well, recorded one goal and five assists on the year for seven points.

Butcher, Songer Form Record Setting Tandem

Tim Songer and Steve Butcher became the most productive scoring tandem in UB history this season. They had a combined 64 points this year (Butcher 36, Songer 28), the most by any pair of players in UB history. It marks just the first time in school history that two players have recorded 25 or more points in a season.

In addition, Songer and Butcher each scored over ten goals (Butcher 14, Songer 11), making it just the second time in UB history that two players had ten or more goals in the same season. The only other time that happened was in 1981.

Butcher Cracks Century Mark

Senior Steve Butcher has rewritten the record books in his career at UB. He recently surpassed the 100 point mark for his career in a game at Western Michigan.

Butcher now has 115 career points, a UB school record. He also holds the career records for goals scored (48) and this season moved into first in career assists with 19.

Butcher holds the top two spots for goals scored in a season with 18 last year and 16 in 1997. He also has the single season record for points scored with 43 last year, and is third in that same category with 36 points in 1997 and this year.

Bulls Moving Up Charts

UB has had a player score 30 points in a season just five times in the program's history. With his 36 points this season, Steve Butcher has now hit that mark three of those five times. He holds the record with 43 points last season, the only 40-point season in UB history.

Tim Songer is not far behind with 28 points this year, 7th best total in UB history. He is eighth in goals in a season with 11 this year and he is ninth in assists with six this year. His 28 points rank as the eighth best total in a season as well.

On the career charts, Songer is 11th in career goals (15), fifth in assists (13) and 7th in points (43). In addition, Brian McCallion is 14th in career goals (12), third in assists (15) and 10th in points (39) and Sebastian Zawislan is 14th in career goals (12) and 13th in career points (30).
