Prior to the contest, the Bulls honored six seniors as a part of their annual Senior Day celebration. Among those honored were Bulley, Escobar, Alex Marrello, Alex Mihal, Mike Sobolewski and Steffen Thoresen. Also honored was senior student-manager Jon Schmieder.
Buffalo captured its first Mid-American Conference victory by defeating Florida Atlantic, 5-3 on Friday night at the FAU Soccer Stadium. In the fifth minute, the Bulls jumped out to a 1-0 lead off their first shot of the contest. Midfielder Kieron Gradwell crossed the ball over to fellow midfielder Rich Wilson. Wilson received the cross inside the 18-yard box, firing a shot into the left upper 90 for the Bulls’ lead. Wilson’s second goal was a bit of déjà vu as Gradwell found Wilson once again on a cross inside the 18-yard box. Wilson buried the shot in the right upper 90 for a Bulls’ 2-0 lead in the 10th minute.
Freshman Casey Derkacz dropped a perfect pass behind the Owls’ defense as sophomore Lucas Bassan raced for the ball. Gaining possesion, Bassan dribbled in on goal to beat the goalie for his fourth goal of the season and a UB 5-1 lead.
Senior forward Bulley bulled his way into UB history by scoring his 17th career goal in the Bulls’ 1-1 draw with Big Four rival Canisius on October 26. Bulley’s tally moved him into a three-way tie for tenth place in most career goals (17) with Brian Hanchar (1989-91) and Kurt Felgemacher (1981, 83, 85). In his career as a Bull, Bulley has amassed 40 total points.
