BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo men's soccer team lost their final regular season game before going into the Mid-American Conference Tournament next weekend. The Bulls lost to the Thundering Herd of Marshall 3-1 in the final home appearance for the men's team this year.

Marshall got on the board first as Byron Carmichael stole a pass off a UB defender and beat goalie Justin Deming (Ballston Spa, NY/Burnt Hills) at the 29:52 mark for a 1-0 lead. Six minutes later, the Thundering Herd would strike again as Ian Leggat scored off a throw in and gave Marshall a 2-0 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Marshall would make it 3-0 with an insurance goal from Carmichael again, this time taking a pass from Leggat and scoring at the 59:21 mark. The Bulls prevented the shutout late in the game as a hand ball call inside the box against Marshall gave UB a penalty shot. Steve Butcher (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) scored the penalty kick for the 3-1 final.

UB ends the regular season with a record of 10-6-1 and 3-4-0 in the MAC. The Bulls will travel to Northern Illinois University next weekend for the MAC tournament and will likely be a fifth seed and have a rematch against Marshall in the first round.
