Bell Named MAC Male Scholar-Athlete Of The Week
Bell tied a season-high with eight saves in his seventh shutout of the season as UB defeated then 19th-ranked Northern Illinois, 1-0. The shutout was also Bell's first against a ranked opponent and UB's first victory over a ranked program since September of 1997. Bell lowered his goals against average to 0.73, which is 22nd in the nation, and is now 9-4-1 in 15 games this season. A political science major, Bell has maintained a 3.645 GPA while studying at UB. The MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well on the field during the week’s competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference’s faculty athletic representatives. Bell is one of many UB players who have put the team in a position to claim its first-ever MAC regular season title, as it is now in a tie for second place in the conference standings. If the Bulls win Friday against Akron, the Bulls will clinch a share of the regular-season title as well as home-field advantage in the MAC tournament. If the Zips pull off the win, they will clinch a share of the title, but Northern Illinois would take home-field advantage in the tournament.
The final game of the regular season versus Akron begins at 7:30 p.m., and will have live stats offered from Akron's schedule page at their website, http://www.gozips.com/liveStats/liveStats.dbml. |
