Bulls Shutout #19 Northern Illinois, 1-0

The University at Buffalo men’s soccer team upended nationally 19th-ranked Northern Illinois Friday night in a hard-fought battle on the pitch. The Bulls prevailed by a count of 1-0, and increased their chances of claiming a share of the Mid-American Conference title. Senior Andrae Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica) provided the heroics, as he blasted his eighth goal of the season into the bottom right of the net in the 85th minute. The team was able to fight off the feisty Huskies for the remaining five minutes of play to take its third conference win of the year.

Clarke Earns Spot On National Team Of The Week

For the second consecutive year, senior Andrae Clarke was honored by being named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week Monday. His game-winning goal against Northern Illinois boosted the Bulls into a tie for first-place in the MAC standings with Northern Illinois and Akron. Clarke has eight goals this season, which is currently tied for first in the conference, and one off of his career-high of nine, which he set last season.

One Last Hurrah . . .

Before Friday night’s upset victory, eight seniors were honored at the annual Senior Day ceremony. Seniors Sola Abolaji (Denver, Colorado/Eagle Crest), Kevin Balkanloo (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson), Daniel Bell (Brampton, Ontario/Notre Dame), Braden Byler (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep), Andrae Clarke, Erik Jaanimagi (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta), Brian Knapp (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), and Mat Wilkinson (Newcastle, Australia/St. Francis Xavior) were joined by family and friends prior to playing in their last regular-season home game.
