Huskies Bulley-d By Buffalo, 2-1
Daniel Bell makes six saves in the victory
Dan Bulley | DEKALB, IL – With a 2-1 victory over Northern Illinois Saturday afternoon, the University at Buffalo men's soccer team improved their record to 9-3-2 and maintained a perfect record in the Mid-American Conference. The Bulls now sit at 3-0 in the MAC thanks to a two-goal game by sophomore forward Dan Bulley (Exeter, England/St. Peter's).
Bulley opened the scoring in the 25th minute when he took a pass from Dan Stevens (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) and found the back of the net to give the Bulls a 1-0 lead. Northern Illinois levelled the match in the 33rd minute when Chris Johnson beat Buffalo goalkeeper Daniel Bell (Brampton, Ontario/Notre Dame Secondary).
Dan Bell | After neither team was able to find a goal in the second half, the Bulls and the Huskies headed to overtime. As they have done all season, the Bulls found a winning goal in the extra session. Bulley scored his second of the match, and team-leading seventh of the season, off a corner kick by sophomore Alex Marrello (Burnaby, British Columbia/Alpha Secondary), who recorded his team best sixth assist on the play. The corner was just the third for the Bulls in the entire match, Northern Illinois earned five corners.
UB is now 5-0-2 in overtime matches this season, the five victories are the most overtime wins in school history.
Bell made six saves between the posts for the Bulls and picked up his 35th career victory, further extending his school record. At the other end, Huskie goalkeeper Joe Zimka made three saves.
Buffalo returns home to the friendly confines of UB Stadium next Friday, October 26 when they host the Zips of Akron. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
