Men's Soccer Falls To CanisiusBUFFALO, NY - A Canisius goal by Ryan Dummett 21:27 into the game was the difference as the University at Buffalo fell to Canisius, 1-0, in non-conference men's soccer action on Friday night. The Bulls drop to 5-6-1 on the season while the Griffins improve to 5-8-1 overall. Dummett's goal, the first of his collegiate career, was just enough offense to hand the Bulls their fifth loss in their last seven games. Buffalo outshot Canisius nine to one in the second half (16-6 for the game), producing several opportunities but they still couldn't manage to hit the back of the net. Sophomore Dave Pidgeon (Dorval, Quebec/Bishop Whelan) hit the post just over five minutes into the second half, freshman Josh Mathis (Penfield, NY/Penfield) was robbed in the 56th minute and junior Geoff Thompson (Clarence, NY/Clarence) hit shots in the box that sailed wide with 19 and 13 minutes remaining. However, Buffalo's best opportunity to tie the game came when freshman Justin Higgins (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) hit the cross bar from inside the box with 3:30 remaining. Canisius goalkeeper David Borchard earned the victory, recording six saves. Junior Brian Wozniak (Canton, MI/Plymouth Salem) had a strong game in the Buffalo net stopping two shots. The Bulls will take the road for their final four regular season games of the year when they
travel to Bucknell (Sunday, October 21), Western Michigan (Sunday, October 28), Northern Illinois
(Tuesday, October 30) and St. Francis (Sunday, November 4). |
