Bulls Snowed Out In MAC Match-up

The University at Buffalo men’s soccer team was forced to play its third Mid-American Conference game against Western Michigan at Lewiston-Porter High School due to inclement weather conditions in the Buffalo area. The neutral site served as the grounds for the Bulls’ demise, as the Broncos played upset with a 1-0 win. The defeat was Buffalo’s first in the conference schedule, and pushed the Bulls to a 8-5-1 overall record. The Bronco goal was scored by Tom Oatley in the opening minute of the second half, as he dribbled past the UB defense to put his team up 1-0. The Bulls have not beaten WMU in the team’s last four match-ups, playing to a 0-1-2 record over that span.

UB Picks Up Pair Late In 2-2 Tie

24 hours following Saturday’s game, the Bulls return to Lewiston for a scheduled Big Four match with Niagara on Sunday afternoon. Fighting fatigue, UB came back from a two-goal deficit to force the tie at 2-2. After giving up two goals in the first half, the Bulls regained their focus and pushed the Purple Eagles for the remainder of the game. Senior Andrae Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica/DeWitt Clinton) scored unassisted in the 76th minute, and was immediately followed up by junior Lee Catchpole (Norwich, England/Bungay) 74 seconds later. Catchpole received the ball on a free kick from senior Brian Knapp (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), and hammered the header home for the tying goal.

Lee Catchpole snapped a six-game pointless streak in Sunday afternoon’s game against Niagara by scoring the game-tying goal in the 77th minute. On the season, the Norwich, England native has two goals and two assists.

Up Next

Buffalo (8-5-2, 2-1 MAC) resumes its Mid-American Conference play, as it welcomes 24th-nationally ranked Northern Illinois to UB Stadium Friday for a 7 p.m. game under the lights. The team will honor its eight graduating seniors prior to the game as well as honor Head Coach John Astudillo for earning his 150th collegiate win.??
