Before Sunday’s Mid-American Conference matchup vs. IPFW, the UB men’s soccer team took time to honor its three senior captains who played their final home regular season game as a Bull. The three seniors, Greg Galemore (Rochester, NY/West Morris), Matt Stuczynski (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep) and Mbwana Johnson (San Fernando, Trinidad/Pleasantville), were presented with a bouquet from their parents along with a picture plaque of the three players. Combined, the three seniors have appeared in 150 games, scoring eights goals and 11 assists. Grade “A” For Braden
Junior Braden Byler (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep) came off the bench Friday night and was expected to fill in for UB’s leading scorer, sophomore Lee Catchpole (Bungay, England/Norwich), who sustained a terrifying head-to-head injury with a Bowling Green defender. Byler made the most of his time on the field by netting two goals in Friday night’s defeat over Bowling Green. Byler’s two goals added reassurance after Catchpole netted the game’s first goal and assisted on the second goal scored by junior Brian Knapp (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool). Byler has three goals and an assist on eight shots this season after starting his first game of the season in UB’s 1-0 win over IPFW Sunday. Two Is The Magic Number
Along with Byler’s two goals on Friday night, the Bulls picked up two MAC wins this weekend, catapulting them into third place behind Akron and Northern Illinois in the Mid-American Conference standings. The two wins also give UB a grand 12-2-0 record which is, once again, tied with Akron for most wins in Division I. The team concludes its regular season with two MAC foes, Western Michigan and Northern Illinois, and the team will look to win out in order to finish atop of the Mid-American Conference. Opponent Shutdown
Junior goalkeeper Daniel Bell (Brampton, Ontario/Notre Dame) continues his success in the net this season after claiming his seventh shutout of the season and winning his 21st career game, which is second on UB’s all-time list. His 12 wins this season also puts him in second place all-time for wins in a single season. Its seventh shutout is the most by a UB team since 1990. The 1981 Buffalo team had eight shutouts for top honors. Up Next
UB travels to two Mid-American Conference opponents to conclude the regular season. Western Michigan welcomes UB on Friday, Oct. 21 at 3 pm, then the team visits 22nd-ranked Northern Illinois for a heated matchup that begins Sunday, Oct. 23 at 1 pm. |
